I always thought I would be the person who got pregnant immediately. It was never a question to me. When it didn’t happen on the first try I freaked out. Not realizing that on average, it takes any healthy couple 6 months to a year to get pregnant (of course if can happen much sooner or take even longer, everyones journey is their journey so you can’t compare) But I literally freaked. I am the type of person that when I want something, I do everything in my power to make sure I am doing everything I can to up my chances. So I started researching everything from diet, to skincare, to supplements, you name it. One of the most important things I came across on my search was the effect our beauty products have on our endocrine system. This isn’t just about fertility or pregnancy but I’m talking long term health. Whether you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, have kids or never plan on having kids, there are certain things I feel you should be aware of. One of which is that chemical sunscreens are horrible for you. Some ingredients in chemical sunscreens actually cause cancer, the whole reason we wear sunscreen is to prevent it! I can go into this in further detail if you’d like. Some chemicals aren’t as bad as others but if it’s unsafe to use while growing a child inside of you, why would you ever want to use it again? I encourage you to read your ingredients. Know what is going into your body both what you are ingesting as well as what you are applying to your skin.
My advice is to stick to mineral sunscreens as much as possible if you can. Yes, they can be annoying as most leave a white cast but it’s worth it. Here are my picks for best mineral/pregnancy sunscreens for face and body. These are my favorite because I feel like they are easy to wear, safe and don’t clog pores.
What it is:
The Organic Mineral Sunscreen Body Lotion SPF50 Unscented provides hydrating, chemical-active free sun protection for even the most sensitive skin. They incorporate genre-defying technology to help them disperse non-nano minerals evenly, for a sheer application with a lightweight and eminently wearable finish.
This Farm-to-Face(tm) formula is supercharged with a proprietary Plant Protection(tm), which incorporates naturally effective and antioxidant-rich nutrients such as Buriti Oil, Meadowfoam Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, and Prickly Pear extract to help fight free radicals and nourish and strengthen the skin barrier.
I personally love this one and used it everyday in Hawaii. It didn’t leave me looking white and was really hydrating on my skin.
What it is
For those who want natural, chemical-free active ingredients, UV Pure full-body sunscreen is the ideal daily sunscreen. This mineral-based formula is fragrance-free, oil-free, paraben-free, sensitivity-free, dye-free, noncomedogenic and water-resistant.
My thoughts on this is that it’s great and clean but leaves you looking pretty white. We use this one in a pinch but not my top pick.
This non-greasy formula starts out white and creamy, then absorbs quickly to create a weightless, transparent UV-protecting barrier that reflects damaging rays away from the skin. It also leaves skin with a luminous, healthy-looking glow, making it the perfect primer for easy makeup application.
I love Biossance products! I use this one a lot for my face and it never breaks me out.
I use this every single day rain or shine! It’s my sunscreen and foundation in one. The coverage is amazing and it’s spf 35 (mineral)
This CC cream provides lightweight coverage, while protecting against UVA and UVB rays. It contains a blend of apple extract, irish moss, red seaweed extract, and sodium hyaluronate that works to make the skin appear smoother, softer, and healthier. It features more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, and for some, could replace a daily foundation.
Bring on the heat with SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50. Designed to supply brilliant sun protection, this mineral sunscreen delivers a shine-free, matte finish, even in the most humid temperatures, thanks to its aerated silica that absorbs 15 times its weight in oil. Zinc oxide blocks burning UVB rays, and titanium dioxide keeps UVA rays a safe distance from your skin.
I love this spf 50 and have switched on and off this for years. It’s chemical free, non comedogenic and lasts all day. It has a very light tint and blends into every skin tone.
So what do you guys think? Will you be switching to mineral sunscreens?
